Welcome to Class 4!

Mrs Shale and Mr Rutherford have the privilege of teach Class 4 with some invaluable help, throughout the week, from Mrs Oliver and Mrs Elstob.

Ensuring the children feel safe, happy and engaged is our priority and therefore making them feel part of the Class 4 team is very important. Lessons adhere to the National Curriculum but also take the lead from the children and their interests, as this is when the best learning occurs.

We strive to help the children take responsibility for their choices and education, whilst developing independence and resilience, as they prepare for the challenges of UKS2 and the ever changing world they live in.   This is achieved through engaging lessons, new opportunities and roles within the class/school.

Throughout the year, we read a variety of engaging and thought-provoking class texts to allow the children to appreciate the joy of reading and escape to another land or time.  They are always welcome to bring their own copy of the books with them but we ask that they don't read on!

Our Maths lessons follow a 'Mastery' approach where there is an increased emphasis on children being able to explain how and why.    In the summer term, all children in Year 4 are required to undertake a national assessment of their multiplication knowledge so continuous practise is essential.   Further information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/multiplication-tables-check-information-for-parents.  Year 3 children will continue to learn their times tables which is supported by the use of TTRockstars.

For more details regarding the year group’s content for English and Maths, please take a look at our 'The curriculum' page under 'About us'

Although Maths and English provide the foundations for other subjects, Class 4 enjoy time exploring the world through our history and geography topics, explore how amazing nature and humans are through our Science lessons and develop their dance, gymnastics and games skills in PE.  Further information on the learning children will undertake during their time in this class can also be found on our 'The curriculum' page
